Time traveling grime – Icy Lake

psycho the end

Hearing Eski ice-clicks on the 1988 vogue house track by Dat Oven, probably the music equivalent of finding a timetraveler using a mobile phone in a clip from a Charlie Chaplin film. Found during a YouTube by Total Freedom leads to the re-discovery of ‘Icy Lake’, now being rereleased by the NightSlugs label. A chronological reversal of the origins of Jungle in the Amen Break, the six second sampling of a 1960s soul track which lead to the emergence of a whole genre. A submerged, unknown origin, uncannily dredged up. Shocking stuff.

Ties in well with both voguing and grime’s obsession with work/werk/werq.
